Legende musikk

June 24th, 2006

The World’s Best Parents

June 24th, 2006

I’m a person who rarely talks about my thoughts and feelings. Except for a few conversations with one of my best friends Morten and a handful other people, I’ve never really talked to anyone about what I’m really feeling. That’s not much for someone who’s 25 years old.

However, I just needed to say something about my parents - because they’re the reason I haven’t completely screwed up my life.

My Mom and Dad are fantastic parents. If you’re thinking “Of course you think so!”, then you’re probably one of those fortunate enough to feel the same way about your own parents. Sadly, not everyone are as privileged as we are…

Mom and Dad have never had a single fight since I was born (maybe not ever for all I know). If it has indeed happened then it happened some time I wasn’t present and they’d squared up by the time I got back - but I actually don’t think it’s ever happened. Neither me nor my sister (as far as I know) have ever seen or heard them fighting. That’s incredible, and most people have a really hard time believing this. Of course, my parents have had serious discussions, but in these discussions they’ve never raised their voice to one another and the discussions have been constructive and filled with respect. THANK YOU for having created such a peaceful and stable home!

Mom and Dad are ALWAYS there when we need them. That has proven to be quite a bit too often over the years, but they don’t complain (except for a few encouragements to pull ourselves together from time to time). Neither me nor my sister have been the perfect son or daughter - who can honestly say they have? My biggest problem has been managing my finances. They’ve had to bail me out of some small (and some not so small) financial problems way too often. THANK YOU - I’ve come a long way there and hopefully it won’t happen again.

Our family has had its share of serious problems, as most other families experience at some point, but Mom and Dad have been exceptionally good at handling them. A lot of this is very private stuff which I won’t talk about here - but Mom and Dad: I’m at a loss for words for how grateful I am for the way you’ve handled everything. You’ve shown great strength and faith - never giving up hope that things could be brought back on the right track. We’re not 100% there yet - but we’re getting very close! I also want to thank all of my wonderful friends for their support and their prayers through some of this - I love all of you.

Mom and Dad: You’ve let us experience living in Canada and in the U.S., you’ve let us see and experience lots of different countries and cultures, and given us a peaceful and stable environment to grow up in. You have been and will always be exceptionally good role models in every way. THANK YOU!

When I get children of my own (which sadly looks like it’s years into the future) I’ll count myself to be extremely lucky if I’m half the father you’ve been Dad…

I hope you both had a great wedding anniversary yesterday! I love you more than I’ll ever be able to say…

-Joachim
